Conflicts, Pandemics and Peacebuilding: New Perspectives on Security Sector Reform in the MENA Region

In preparation of the next edition of Rome Med Dialogues that will be held in December (3-5) ISPI and DCAF have jointly decided to produce a publication titled “Conflicts, Pandemics and Peacebuilding: New Perspectives on Security Sector Reform in the MENA Region”.

In this regional meeting, the authors will present their contributions and discuss them with selected peer-reviewers; the discussion will then be opened to other experts taking part in the meeting.

Reflecting the structure of the publication, the first part of the event will discuss existing, envisaged and deployed SSR doctrines across the MENA region. Key concepts such as security provision will be re-evaluated taking into account the prominent role hybrid actors have acquired in the past decade across the region, as well as with regard to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. The second part of the event will focus on four case-studies: Libya, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
