The Role of Italy in the Mediterranean: 2 MED Speeches You Shouldn’t Miss

A Common Space

Being part of the Mediterranean basin brings benefits and also challenges that all countries of the region have to deal with together. Italy has shown preparedness in taking responsibility with both the EU allies and all other countries with which Italy has a long-standing relationship based on mutual cooperation. This was the core of the message by the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giuseppe Conte, and other eminent speakers at the closing session of Rome MED Dialogues 2019.

 

 

Italy in the Mediterranean Region

Italy has a special role in the Mediterranean region. Not only for geographical reasons, being Italy at the centre of the “Mare Nostrum”, but also because of political, economic and cultural interests shared by three continents that are integral parts of the Mediterranean.
These were some of the topics of the remarks by Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, and Giampiero Massolo, President of the Italian Institute for Political Studies (ISPI), and, at the opening session of Rome MED Dialogues 2019.
